Superscore Formula
The formula depends on the scoring version you are using.
For enhanced scoring:
English + Math + Reading ÷ 3
For legacy scoring:
English + Math + Reading + Science ÷ 4
The final result is rounded to the nearest whole number. If the average ends in .5 or higher, it rounds up.
Simple Calculation Example
Suppose your best section scores are:

Using the legacy formula:
28 + 30 + 27 + 26 = 111
111 ÷ 4 = 27.75
Rounded result = 28
So the estimated superscore would be 28.
If you use enhanced scoring, the calculator uses only English, Math, and Reading for the main composite.
What the Result Means
Scores are reported on a 1–36 scale. A higher superscore may help you understand your position for college admissions, scholarship eligibility, or a target school range.
This result is only an estimate. Colleges may review scores differently, so always check each school’s policy before sending your official report.
Enhanced vs Legacy Scoring
Enhanced scoring uses English, Math, and Reading to calculate the main composite.
Legacy scoring includes English, Math, Reading, and Science.
Science may still matter for students who take it, especially for STEM-related score details, but it may not be part of the enhanced composite.
Science and Writing Scores
Science can be included when using legacy scoring. It may also be used in a STEM score, which is usually based on Math and Science.
The Writing test is separate and uses a 2–12 score scale. It does not change the main composite or superscore.

This calculator is helpful before deciding whether to retake the test.
If one section is much lower than the others, improving that section may raise your superscore. If your section scores are already balanced, a retake may not change the result as much.
