Estimate Your Score With the Tool
Add your calculator input based on the scores you already have.
For the multiple-choice section, enter how many questions you got correct from MCQ out of 60.
For the free-response section, enter your points for:
long FRQ out of 10
short FRQ out of 5
short FRQ out of 5
The tool will combine your raw points, convert them into scaled points, and show your estimated point total.
How the Score Estimate Works
The calculator works like a simple composite score calculator and raw score calculator.
A simplified version of the calculation is:
FRQ scaled to 30 points = FRQ raw points ÷ 20 × 30
composite score out of 90 = MCQ points + scaled FRQ points
After that, the tool uses a score conversion to place your result into an estimated score range and score band.
Your final result is shown as an AP score 1 to 5 estimate.
Exam Format Used in the Estimate
The official macroeconomics exam has two main sections.
| Section | Format | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| Multiple Choice | 60 MCQ questions, 1 hour 10 minutes | 66 percent exam score |
| Free Response | 3 free-response questions, 1 hour FRQ section, 10-minute reading period | 33 percent exam score |
The free-response section includes 1 long FRQ and 2 short FRQs.
The long question is worth 50 percent of the FRQ score. Each short question is worth 25 percent each.
The estimate uses this section weight to balance the MCQ and FRQ parts of your result.
How to Use the Result for AP Exam Preparation
Use your result to find what needs the most attention.
If your MCQ result is low, spend more time on practice questions and topic review.
If your FRQ result is low, compare your answers with scoring guidelines, sample responses, and a released FRQ from AP Central.
You can also use the tool to track your study progress over time. After each practice test score, check whether your estimate is moving closer to your score goal.
This makes the tool helpful for AP exam preparation, not just a one-time score check.
What to Review After You Calculate Your Score
If your score is lower than your target score, review the major AP Macro units from the course framework.
Important areas include:
Basic Economic Concepts
Economic Indicators and Business Cycle
National Income and Price Determination
Financial Sector
Stabilization Policies
Open Economy
Use unit weighting to plan your review. Units with more exam weight usually deserve more practice time.

FAQs
How accurate is this score predictor?
This tool gives an estimated score based on your entered MCQ and FRQ points. It is helpful for practice, but it cannot guarantee your official AP result.
What is a composite score?
A composite score combines your multiple-choice and free-response performance into one total. On this tool, the estimate is shown as a composite score out of 90.
What is a good AP Macro score?
A score 3 is usually considered a passing result. A score 4 or score 5 is stronger and may help with college credit or placement, depending on the school.
Can I use this after a practice test?
Yes. The tool is designed for checking a practice test score, mock exam, or timed review set. Enter your MCQ and FRQ points to get an exam score estimate.
How should I enter my FRQ points?
Enter the points you earned for each free-response question. Use the official rubric or FRQ scoring guidelines when possible so your FRQ score is realistic.
Does this show my official AP score?
No. Official scores come from the College Board through AP score reports. This tool only gives an estimate for practice and exam readiness.
Can this tell me if I will get college credit?
No calculator can guarantee college credit. Each college sets its own credit and placement score rules, so check the school’s policy with AP Credit Policy Search.
